ABOUT DARICO JACKSON
Los Angeles- DaRico Jackson has always been an artist at heart, after starting a major in Mass Communications at Dillard University he decided to attend The Academy of Scientific Hair Design. He then challenged himself more by attending The National Academy of Beauty Arts with special studies under the scientific educational system of Redken. DaRico was determined to take hair styling to a different level, not to just “do hair”, but create innovative designs unique to clients individual personalities and needs.
“I quickly carved out a niche for myself in the oversaturated St Louis market and instantly gained a faithful clientele including; the who’s who of the community, in addition to stylist interested in learning the secret to my success.” State’s Jackson.
Still Striving for more, DaRico became a Regional Designer for Sebastian International’s Advanced Education Program, and has had the honor and opportunity to work platform for such companies as:
- Johnson Products Sensitive by Nature
- Afam Concept’s Vitale Product Line
- Luster Product’s Essations
- Elgin Charles Products
- L’Oreal/ Mizani
After only 1.5 year’s on the education team for L’Oreal Mizani, he is now a part of L’Oreal Mizani’s Development Team. “This allows me to keep up with the latest trends and an opportunity to mutually share learning with my peers”; states Jackson.
Needing another creative outlet to display his talents he developed Contour, a nonprofit modeling agency for people of color which produced some of the most aggressive and provocative shows of it’s time! Shortly after DaRico decided to explore other heart felt goals and opened Soulmate Shoe Salon which unfortunately went out of business and instead of being defeated he turned a misfortune into Fusion Salon, his 1st salon, an upscale eclectic experience with a Neo Soul vibe and that DaRico Flair!
Resisting complacency with no room for growth, DaRico soon relocated to Los Angeles, California in February of 2003 and obtained his first job at the renowned Elgin Charles Salon of Beverly Hills, where he quickly earned notoriety.
His major broadcast makeover shows include:
- “Renovate My Family,” (FOX)
- “I Lost It” (Discovery Channel )
- “Head 2 Toe Makeovers”(ETV)
- “A Second Look” (Lifetime)
- “Pulled over” (MTV)
“A Second Look” gave him the opportunity to help women in crisis regain esteem but soon his outstanding
performance personality earned him a regular spot on the show as the ethnic hair specialist shooting 26 episodes. This opened opportunities such as a cameo appearance in The Game and Neo’s “Camera Phone“video and recently featured in L’Oreal/Mizani’s national training DVD for JC Penny.
Through networking he landed his 1st L.A. based celebrity client Mr. Shaquille’ O’Neal (Los Angeles Lakers) as his personal and commercial stylist for 3 years. From that came a visit from Crystal Wright, owner of one of the most reputable agencies in the business, The Crystal Agency. She provided opportunity for international recognition including contributions to publications such as; Italian Vogue, Harpers Bizarre, People Magazine, XXL, Foam, Zink, and Sophisticates Black Hair, just to name a few. This allowed him to team up with some of the industry greats like Makeup artist’ Joann Gaire and world renowned photographers such as Andrew Matusik and John Russo.
Now as a true celebrity hairstylist I continue to show diversity by appropriated looks for artist’s projects in major music videos, independent films, book covers and motion picture movies, where my work invades the minds of viewers of the “Ghetto Fabulous” Angela, a character played by the talented actress Tasha Smith from the blockbuster film “Why Did I Get Married” by Tyler Perry. “That hair was its own character” states DaRico. “That was years ago and I’m still receiving compliments, who would have thought?”
He recently participated in NAHA’s (North American Hair Association) world hair photo competition, where he had the opportunity to compete against top hairdressers all over the world. He was recently selected to represent at L’Oreal Mizani’s yearly editorial photo shoot to create in salon images for JCPenny Salons worldwide. Not only does his clientele consist of powerful corporate women but also a celebrity clientele that include looks for Tasha Smith, Vanessa A. Williams, Gina Ravera, El Debarge, Cassandra Freeman, Tatyana Ali, Rochelle Aytes, Michael Ealy, Tichina Arnold, Wendy Davis, Colby Odonis, Neicy Nash, Kelly Price, Vivica Fox, Joni Sledge, Chrisette Michele and Paula Abdul to name a few.
Now critically acclaimed DaRico stays focused on evolving goals, being humble and realizing his gifts are blessings from God while thinking about “what next!”
